Riding & transport
Will it fit in your car? Measure before you buy
A practical measurement worksheet for folded scooters, disassembled mobility equipment and vehicle loading.
Applies to: Transporting unoccupied equipment. Occupied wheelchair access requires a different vehicle and securement assessment.
Measure the ride in its transport configuration
Use the exact model and the configuration you will actually load. “Foldable” does not tell you whether it fits, and “portable” does not tell you what you can lift.
- Record folded length, width and height.
- For disassembly, record the dimensions and weight of each piece.
- Include batteries, seating and accessories that remain attached.
- Identify approved lifting points and how each part must be secured.
Pride’s Go Go Folding specifications distinguish weight without batteries from weight with different battery options. That distinction is useful even when you are considering a different model.
Measure the opening, not just the cargo floor
| Measure or confirm | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Narrowest opening width and height | The device must pass through the opening. |
| Usable cargo depth and height | Check the actual seat positions and closed hatch. |
| Loading sill height and lip | These affect lifting and ramp geometry. |
| Space around the vehicle | A ramp or lift needs room to operate. |
| Remaining payload and approved mount | Physical fit alone does not establish carrying capacity. |
Ask a dealer to demonstrate loading the actual model into your vehicle. A cardboard outline can help check floor space, but it cannot confirm the lifting motion, clearances or securement.
Plan around the person doing the loading
The heaviest piece matters, but so do its shape, grip points and the height it must be lifted. Consider who will load it on an ordinary day and what happens when that person is unavailable. Avoid choosing equipment around a lift you can manage only with difficulty.
Where manual loading is impractical, compare a compatible carrier, hoist or platform lift. The installed equipment and carried device both count toward the load. Have a qualified installer check the exact vehicle and mobility-device combination. Harmar’s compatibility guide explains the factors involved.
Choose a transport solution before ordering
Read our lifts, carriers and ramps guide for the main equipment types. Request a quote that includes installation, accessories, securement and operator training.
If someone needs to remain seated in a wheelchair while entering or traveling in a vehicle, seek an accessible-vehicle assessment. An unoccupied scooter carrier does not provide passenger access or crash protection.
Browse portable options in the directory, then confirm the measurements for your chosen model.
